IJTA Students Excel at the Dunlop Jr. Tennis Champs

Several Ivan Lendl IJTA students competed in the Dunlop Junior Tennis Championship over the past weekend (Feb 18-19th, 2012).  Here are their results:

Nicholas Wilson, a 17 year old junior at the academy, played in the Boys 18s Red Draw.  He dispatched his first opponent rather effortlessly with a 6-3; 6-0 match.

His second match was against the #2 Seed in the Draw.  Nicholas fought hard, but lost a close match 7-5; 7-6(6).  Unfortunately, the weather shortened the tourney for the Boys 18s, and Nicholas wasn't able to see his way through the consolation draw.

Sisters Jade and Carolina Lewis both played in the Girls 18s.  Carolina drew a tough matchup and lost to the #3 Seed in the Girls 18s, who went on to win through the Semifinals.  Carolina then won her way through the third round of the consolation draw, just losing to the 18th Ranked player in the Girls  18 year olds in the  Southern USTA 7-6; 6-4; 7-6(6).

The star IJTA player for the weekend was Jade Lewis, who also played the Girls 18 Draw.  She drew the #9 seed (and #39 18 year old in the Southern USTA) and lost a close match 6-4; 7-6(4) to a player that only lost to the eventual Girls 18s Champion!

In the consolation draw, however, Jade quickly won her way through to the 3rd Round.  Along the way, Jade went through the #1 16-year-old and the #2 14-year-old in the Southern USTA.  In her third match of the day, Jade then lost to the #19 18-year-old in the Southern USTA in the 3 Round of the consolation draw.

In all, it was a great showing by all three students.  We look forward to seeing academy students compete in the One Love Tennis Junior Champs of the South in Atlanta, Ga.
